North America Records Highest Refining Capacity under Maintenance in the Quarter

Key Highlights

  • In Q1 2016, North America had the highest refining capacity (2,290 mbd) under both planned and unplanned maintenance in the world, followed by South America (1,066 mbd) and Asia (967 mbd).
  • North America also had the most refining capacity under planned maintenance (1,945 mbd), followed by Asia (667 mbd) and the Middle East (387 mbd).
  • South America had the most refining capacity under unplanned maintenance (955 mbd) in the world. North America was second with 345 mbd and Asia was third with 300 mbd.
  • In terms of countries, the US had the highest refining capacity (2,290 mbd) under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) in the world. Venezuela occupied the second position (955 mbd), followed by Taiwan (540 mbd).
  • The US (1,945 mbd), Taiwan (540 mbd) and Kuwait (270 mbd) were the top three countries in the world with the highest refining capacity under planned maintenance in the quarter.
  • The top three countries affected by unplanned maintenance were Venezuela (955 mbd), the US (345 mbd) and India (300 mbd).
  • The refineries with highest capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) in the world were Paraguana (955 mbd) in Venezuela, Port Arthur II (569 mbd) in the US, and Mailiao (540 mbd) in Taiwan.
  • Port Arthur II (569 mbd) in the US, Mailiao (540 mbd) in Taiwan, and Whiting (430 mbd) in the US were the top three refineries under planned maintenance in Q1 2016.
  • Paraguana (955 mbd) in Venezuela was the refinery with most capacity affected by unplanned maintenance in the world, followed by Beaumont (345 mbd) in the US and Paradip (300 mbd) in India.
  • The operator with the highest refining capacity under maintenance in the world was Petroleos de Venezuela (955 mbd), followed by Motiva Enterprises LLC (796 mbd) and Formosa Petrochemical Corporation (540 mbd) in Q1 2016.
  • Motiva Enterprises LLC (796 mbd) and Formosa Petrochemical Corporation (540 mbd) were also the top two operators in the world in terms of planned maintenance in the quarter. BP plc occupied the third position with a refining capacity of 430 mbd.
  • Petroleos de Venezuela (955 mbd), ExxonMobil Corporation (345 mbd) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (300 mbd) witnessed the most unplanned maintenance in the world in Q1 2016.
